How to Properly Clean & Maintain Granite Countertops

Granite is one of the most durable materials you can choose for your kitchen, but it does require some simple care to maintain its lustrous finish and prevent staining.

1. Daily Cleaning

For daily maintenance, avoid harsh chemicals. A simple mixture of warm water and mild dish soap is all you need. Use a microfiber cloth to wipe down surfaces and dry them to prevent water spots.

Wait! Never use vinegar, lemon juice, or ammonia on granite. These acidic substances can etch the stone and dull the finish.

2. Annual Sealing

Most granite tops should be sealed at least once a year. This creates a protective barrier that prevents liquids from soaking into the microscopic pores of the stone.

3. Spill Management

Wipe up spills immediately, especially wine, oils, and acidic liquids. Blot the spill instead of wiping it, as wiping can spread the liquid.
